On this page we would like to tell you about the fantastic weather we have all year round here in the south, the many fiestas and fantastic food, the blue Mediterranean Sea with the golden sand that stretches for miles around the coast. There are also fabulous mountains and scenery for the walkers amongst you along with plenty to do. In the evenings you can enjoy a glass of wine looking out to sea in one of the many beach cafes or dance the night away to the early hours in a club. Almeria is perfect for all the family.
Aguilas Plaza is a beautiful place to sit and while away the hours looking at the magnificent unspoilt Spanish architecture.
There are many cafes where you can sit in the square but you must try the Spanish Churros with chocolate sold at the edge of the square, the Spanish eat them for breakfast during the winter months and especially at festival times. Aguilas is a traditional Spanish town and celebrates fiestas all year round. These are the best places to sample local cuisine and traditions. Watch out for these festivals as in the true Spanish tradition they usually start at least one hour late if not two and I would suggest as the Spanish do, that you take your own chair as it can be a long night!
You could also discover the beauty of the sea by diving in areas such as Cueva de la Virgen, Isla del Fraile and Calabardina
Just along the coast south of Aguilas is this beautiful small town. It has a small population with many Spanish people choosing this area as their holiday destination. Tempted by the long golden sandy beaches and calm waters there is a new golf course due to be finished soon and there are plenty of good restaurants and bars.
One of the most beautiful and majestic cities in the region, Lorca has been declared a place of historic interest. A good place to start your visit would be the time visitor centre located in the La Merced convent, where you can find out how the city has evolved since prehistoric times, passing through Roman Lorca to the present day. Lorca also has many shops and restaurants.
Mazzaron offers 10 km of beautiful coves. This is one of Spains few undeveloped and unspoilt areas of coast where you can follow one or more of the twenty well-marked walking, cycling, riding or diving routes and trails. Have you ever seen Cetaceans at sea? There are few better places than the bay of Mazzaron why not head off in a 20 metre 'turkish gulet'? as well as enjoying time sailing in the blue waters of the Mediterranean, you'll have the opportunity to spot Cetaceans such as the Common, Striped and Bottlenose Dolphin, Long-Finned Pilot Whale and if you are lucky, Finback and Sperm Whale.
Garrucha is a very pretty Spanish port which has grown in popularity. On Wednesdays there is a fish market in the harbour where you can stand and watch the fishing boats come in and unload their catch, such as shark, crayfish, lobster, octopus and many more. It's a good opportunity to see the sea life you may not otherwise come across.
Garrucha has a long sandy beach and in the evenings comes alive with many bars, restaurants and shops jostling for trade.
